Year 6
Welcome to Year 6!
There are two classes in year 6, with approximately 30 children in each class. Both classes, receive a carefully planned curriculum in line with the national curriculum expectations. Activities are consistent in both classes, allowing collaborative work across the year group. The children work in mixed ability groups for English and Maths, with some children working in a small group in order to support their individual needs.
Whiterose Maths is used to focus the teaching in mathematics, providing the children with clear visual models for mathematical concepts, a focus on fluency and the ability to apply their knowledge through reasoning and problem solving activities.
We believe that high quality texts and real-life purpose will inspire our children to read and write to a high standard. We have a range of whole class texts from MacBeth to Wonder to inspire and motivate and children and to cultivate a love of reading within our children. Real life purposes for writing help to engage and focus children on writing tasks.
We strive to work collaboratively with families, having an open door policy. The use of ClassDojo allows instant communication between home and school. We value the support of families and acknowledge that it is only by working together that children are truly successful.
