PSHE and RSE

Who can I talk to about PSHE and Personal Development?

You can talk to your child's class teacher or our PSHE Lead, Mrs Power or Mrs Gordon

Our Vision for PSHE and Personal Development:

We want our pupils to know how to be safe and healthy and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives effectively.

Here at Studley St Mary's we have thought carefully about the content and sequence of our PSHE curriculum in consultation with parents and the children and with a string understanding of our local context.

We aim for the children to be able to make links between healthy relationships both on and off line, mental well being, understanding difference and living well together in a diverse world so they are confident and articulate.

The children follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme broadly but this is adapted in a number of ways to best suit our children's needs eg through the addition of Protective Behaviours and Boomerang resilience program.

We deliver a curriculum that follows guidance given by the Department for Education and from the PSHE Association. This webpage has information regarding the curriculum that we offer. Policies that are related to PSHE can be found on our website under Home - Key information - Policies

Protective behaviours are taught across all year groups in autumn term. Each year group have 4 lessons, each with their own theme. In this unit, pupils are taught the following:

  • Rights - specifically our right to feel safe
  • Emotional awareness - this involves understanding and naming our emotions
  • Our network - this teaches pupils to identify who they can trust and turn to for help
  • Boundaries and body privacy
  • Safe and unsafe secrets.

Jigsaw PSHE

Jigsaw covers the majority of the PSHE curriculum. It is introduced in autumn (after the No Outsiders unit) and continues to be taught all the way through summer term. Jigsaw has 6 units known as puzzles. Each puzzle is made up of 6 lessons. The unit titles are listed below:

  • Being Me in My World
  • Celebrating Difference
  • Dreams and Goals
  • Healthy Me
  • Relationships
  • Changing Me
